Cellulite
A condition that affects an estimated 90% of women, Cellulite is the term used to describe superficial pockets of trapped fat which cause uneven dimpling or puckering of the skin. Terms such as orange peel or cottage cheese are also used to describe how Cellulite appears on the surface. Most commonly found on the thighs, buttocks, abdomen and even the arms, this condition is not necessarily linked to obesity. It occurs in normal, overweight and thin women without deference and is found much less often in men.
Hormonal factors seem linked to the development of Cellulite as it develops mainly in women during periods of hormonal change such as puberty, pregnancy, menopause, and premenstrual time frames. This is concluded due to the effect hormones play in regulating changes in blood flow, fat and connective tissue, all of which play a role in the formation of Cellulite.
Aging can be a contributing factor to this condition due to a loss of thickness in connective tissue and the superficial fat layer, and the decrease of collagen in the skin. These changes may cause the presence of Cellulite to become more visible and pronounced.
Sun exposure can speed the process of aging of the skin, and therefore also be a factor in the increase of Cellulite as well.
Although exercise and a well balanced diet do not seem to directly inhibit the formation of Cellulite, weight gain and poor nutrition can contribute to a worsening of this condition over time.
Remedies to correct or eradicate Cellulite have been in development for decades and in fact millions of dollars are spent each year by those hoping to find the ultimate solution to this condition.
Progress has been made in the fight against Cellulite with the advancement in aesthetic technologies in the market place. At a minimum, new treatments have emerged that are proving to be more effective in the reduction of symptoms.
Methods of treating cellulite
The most promising and effective treatment available at this time is a one session procedure with Thermage™. The radio frequency technology produces some instant improvement and can be expected to create additional results over a 6 month period of time following the treatment as new collagen is formed. This method of addressing Cellulite is gaining favor over prior methods used which involve multiple sessions and slower reduction of symptoms. It is important to note that results of any treatment of this nature can vary according to age and skin condition.
A topical formula such as Body of Knowledge by Prescribed Solutions, used in conjunction with Thermage™, can have additional benefits of improving circulation and smoothing the skin in afflicted areas.
Exercise, proper diet, and ample hydration go hand in hand with treatments and products designed to address the appearance of Cellulite.
